Uber Starts Up "You Drink, We Drive" campaign

Like many other young adults I enjoy going out and experiencing the night life that Pittsburgh has to offer. When it comes to transportation afterwards it can be as easy as calling a taxi, which may or may not come at all, getting on a bus, if you manage to catch it by the 2 AM last bus out, or calling Lyft or Uber. Recently, Uber has started their You Drink, We Drive campaign in an effort for consumers under the influence to make it home safely.

In Toronto, Uber is rolling out "Uber Kiosks" which includes a breathalyzer in it. Consumers simply push a touchscreen on the kiosk which dispenses a sterile straw. They then put the straw into the breathalyzer built into the kiosk and the touchscreen walks them through how long they need to continuously blow for. Finally, the kiosk analyzes the data and if the user is over the legal limit, it calls them an Uber to their location. This is a great campaign and shows interactivity between company and user. Check out the video below on this cool new campaign.

  1. That is a great idea. From my experience, Uber seems to be the most conscientious when it comes to customer relations. Any time I have had a problem, or came in contact with someone who had a problem with their Uber ride, it was fixed efficiently. People who use Uber to avoid drinking and driving have to be their largest demographic, and have to be the demographic that is driving the most sales. This campaign is a direct reflection of that. I think they should incorporate some sort of test like this one on the app for all of the other cities who have Uber.

  2. Too bad they don't have this breathalyzer test all around Pittsburgh. I've had so many close calls with drunk drivers. Although this campaign was initiated in Toronto, it would be interesting to see if it has an impact in other cities with Uber.

  3. I think this advertisement will definitely resonate well with a young audience, especially people in their twenties. Uber has definitely increased in popularity and become many people's first choice for transportation after a late night out. It will be interesting to see if there is an increase in revenue for Uber in Toronto after this campaign. I am also curious as to if Uber has plans to launch this in other cities, and what their time table for doing so is. I really think this is a great idea with a lot of potential.
