Log Commercial

This "commercial" is from the 1990's show Ren and Stimpy and advertises.... LOGS... yes the pieces of wood! Looking at this in retrospect in terms of some advertisement formats is quite comical.

This clip may insinuate that advertisers today follow a similar pattern and format no matter what the product is... whether it be through a jingle, or utilizing a "hard sell" technique by listing the product benefits or the several uses of the product a consumer can engage in while using it.

In Dr. Z's Case Studies and Strategies course, groups are creating vintage advertisements for adiPure trainer shoes using techniques from the Beginning, Early and Modern eras of American advertising. This log ad seems exude the opposite strategy because they are using current American advertising strategies on a product that was certainly more significant and mundane to a past era, perhaps around the 1800's.

Try to look for other techniques this mock ad uses!

  1. This made me instantly think of every old Wham-O ad and I would be shocked if this wasn't intended as a direct parody of them. Everything about it: the super simple products, the jingle, and especially the final scene.
