Far from a Pick-up

When you think of a Chevy pick-up truck commercial, images of a trucks hulling thousand-ton loads of steel barreling over tough terrain automatically slip into your head. This classic look and feel of pick-up truck advertisements is far from what is seen in Chevy's newest television commercial.

In this commercial, we see a little boy with a very large imagination playing with his miniature version of a Chevy pick-up truck. As he plays with the tuck we see that in his imagination the truck is very versatile and can conquer many different things, such as hulling around heavy barrels of monkeys, or driving over the bumpy terrain of a block road. At the end of the commercial, the little boy's father pulls up the driveway in the real life version of the Chevy pick-up. A narrator's voice is than heard saying, "Built for work and everything you work for. From father to son Chevy runs deep".

Although I believe that this commercial had good intentions, it fell short of what it was trying to accomplish. The target audience of any Chevy truck commercial would be affluent males, age ranging from 30 to 45, and in this particular case those who have a family with young sons. It is always a good thing to try to reach audiences in new ways, but I feel like this commercial fell short of exciting or interesting its target audience. This commercial attempted a new softer approach to appeal to its audience. It showed very little about the actual truck and focused more on that the little boy imagined it could do. Male consumers are going to look for factual logical reasons to make a big purchases, such as buying a new car, not for emotional appeal. I feel like this commercial was very ineffective to promote the product and offer any reason why to buy it what-so-ever.
