How Far Would You Go?

How far would you go for a good cup of joe? Apparently George Clooney is willing to travel through time as he pops in and out of half a dozen familiar Hollywood scenes in order to get a cup of Nespresso.

The ad includes scenes from the Muppets (1979), Psycho (1960) , Easy Rider (1969),  Smokey and the Bandit (1977),  Planes, Trains and Automobiles (1987) and Seabiscuit (2003).

"We wanted to bring an aspect of George's movie world mixed with elements of cultural references into the campaign" shared client vp of marketing, Davide Moro.

The creative team worked closely with Clooney in selecting the movies. The director and effects company wished to have props, lighting, camera angles and many other specifics defined in advance to allow Clooney to focus specifically on his greenscreen performance.

Nespresso's popular ad attracted viewers of all different ages and preferences, bypassing defining a target audience. By utilizing different movie genres and decades, Nespresso was able to convey the message that not only is their product so amazing people go out of their way to have it, but more subtly that it is for everyone.

Check out the video below to see if you recognize any of these iconic scenes. How far you'd go for a cup of Nespresso?

  1. My mom loves this little coffee maker and the coffee. I do too when she lets me make a cup! This ad brings fast-paced and nostalgic elements to the table, and it reminds me of the Klondike, “what would you do for a Klondike Bar!” It does set itself apart from any other coffee makers because of its expensive taste and feel, but I believe the ad makes it fun and approachable, rather than just another “snobby” coffee maker. It shows that, “yes its used by the celebrities,” but that it’s not, “an unusable item if you don’t have professional knowledge of gourmet coffee”.
