Metro Trains Melbourne: ‘Dumb Ways to Die’

Metro Trains Melbourne took a humorous approach to reduce the number of accidents happening on its railway network.  The company launched a campaign video including all of the “dumb” ways a person can die with hopes of it being highly memorable to the consumers who watch it.  In the video, it features cartoon characters running through all of the dumb ways someone can die, including the ones involved at the Metro Trains Melbourne

The video is this campaign has a very catchy tune that definitely caught the attention of everyone who watched it.  Although people dying is a very serious topic, the company used the strategy of a more humorous approach to bring attention to the topic but in a less serious way.

This campaign was such a big hit that there was actually a game created for a mobile app with the same theme and characters included in the campaign video!

  1. What a unique way to raise awareness toward a serious topic! Although some people may think incorporating humor to address a serious topic, such as death, may be taking an insensitive approach, I think it can be an effective way to get people talking more around the issue as it is easier to talk about something funny that it is to talk about something serious.

  2. When I first heard about "Dumb Ways to Die," I only knew about the catchy tune and the apps. Once I learned the story behind the campaign, I really liked Metro Trains Melbourne's musical and creative idea to spread awareness on a topic about safety.
