Netflix, the world's leading streaming entertainment service with over 167 million paid memberships in over 190 countries is no stranger to sexual euphemisms (About Netflix). "Netflix and Chill" started as the original name of the brand, but has quickly turned into internet slang people use to refer to as an invitation for sexual activity. With this reputation, Netflix took advantage of a popular sex meme trend to interact with their Twitter followers, while at the same time promoting the upcoming release of Sex Education Season 2 last December. The question Netflix asked above in a tweet went viral and accumulated over 110K retweets and 440K favorites.
The most amazing part of the tweet was that other brands got in on the action by replying with a answer that represented their brand. Some brands that participated include: Wendy's, Yelp, Snickers, Instagram, Natural Light and many many more. I highly recommend checking out the link at the top of the page to see how others creatively jumped on board to promote their brand as well, which ultimately helped Netflix reach a wider audience.
It's crazy to think how a couple years ago this kind of social media content would have been widely frowned upon, but now it's a viral sensation. Since the social media platforms constantly have trends come and go, it is very important for brands like Netflix to stay on their toes so they could also possibly capitalize on a great advertising opportunity.
