Wendy's defended their beef sourcing for more than 6,000 restaurants in North American, running an advertisement in 8 major newspapers Friday. The ad said that they have never used beef teated with ammonium hydroxide, more commonly known as "pink slime."
Pink Slime has been all over the news lately, and has also been the focus of a public awareness campaign from chef Jamie Oliver and many others.
Wendy's spokesman Bob Bertini said the chain started receiving emails and questions from customers as to whether the restaurant had ever used the pink slime mixture, like other restaurants such as McDonald's, Burger King and Taco Bell. So he wanted to set the record straight and make it clear that they have never used beef trimmings, or pink slime, because it did not meet their high quality standards for meat.
The ad ran in these newspapers last Friday: USA Today, The New York TImes, The Chicago Tribune and The Miami Herald. The ad read: "We've never used fillers, additives, preservatives, flavor boosters or ammonia treatments. We've never used "pink slime" and we never will."

Thanks for posting this, Maura. I was wondering why Wendy's had been pretty quiet at first about the "pink slime" issue, and now I know why. What a great ad, too - simple and straightforward.
